Fitness 101 – DD8

Dom invites special guest, Niall Watts to the show.

Together they talk about different aspects of fitness.  Niall talks about how long he has been into fitness, what are some of the things he loves when training people, and things he hated.

They talk about some of our favorite exercises and some of our least favorite exercise, and why they are our favorite or least favorite.

Niall also gives a few suggestions for people starting out to get fit, and things to help prevent burning out.

Dom and Niall talk about how they feel about Body Mass Index (B.M.I.).

Nial also recommends different types of workouts.  One is called Bar Training Calisthenics, and the other is called Joint Mobility Exercises.

Dom surprises Niall by having Niall do an always remember at the end of the show.

  1. I actually wrote notes listening to this one!

*The point Niall makes about not having the time is so, so appropriate. I’ve actually stopped saying “I just don’t have the time” recently. For me, it’s “I truly to not make the time for that.” I am super cognizant of that now. “I don’t have the time” is an excuse. We all have 24-hours in a day, we all just choose to put it into our own blocks. If you want something badly enough, you will carve the time for that. Sometimes all it takes is realization of that. Totally appropriate, awesome point.

*I want to work out with you two. You are exceptional. You are knowledgeable certainly, but you both seem super approachable and really keen and enthusiastic about this fitness topic. You understand that people are different and have different goals. I love that. It is very respectful. …and it sounds like it would be super fun!

*Age effects everything. Oh my stars. Yes. I’m with you cats. I’m actually in better shape now, in my 30s, than I ever have been. Well. I WAS, but then biology happened and I’ve really slowed down. BUT! I’m back to the gym, in easy, slow ways. Because a) it will keep me healthy, b) my health is imperative for the tiny person I’m cultivating, and c) SUPER helpful in labour and birth.

*Fitness as something to use to better yourself. Yes! You don’t have to be a gym monkey or run thirty miles a day, but if you have goals they should be for you. (Like with every other goal in life.)

*Niall. Your accent, my friend. You could be on the show more frequently. (And beyond that, you are also great to listen to. You know what you’re talking about and you sound like you have a lot of appreciation and respect for people. I can see why you and Dom are friends.)

    *Be true to yourself. Word.

    • *Yeah, we both have had problems with this. LOL. People telling us that they want to do something, but they don’t have the time to do it, but if it is something that they really want to do, they will make the time to do it. 🙂 I want to play the guitar more, but right now, it’s not as much of a priority as doing karate, studying Japanese or podcasting, but I understand that and accept that, I don’t make excuses for it. 🙂

*Thank you. I’ve shared your second your feeling about working out with us with Niall, and he thought it really made hime happy. We like to do things that are fun for us. 🙂

*LOL, yeah it does. I’m in better shape now then I was in my late 30’s, but when I take a break, it takes less time to get out of shape and a little longer to get back into shape again. LOL. And I feel sore muscles longer. 🙂 But that’s part of what I love. I know I’ve worked hard and have earned it.

*Exactly! That’s what both Niall and I feel. Do the things that you enjoy, don’t force yourself to be a gym monkey or a marathon runner if that’s not something you enjoy doing. You will just burn yourself out.

*He and I have talked about him coming on the show again. We have two (2) shows planned, but maybe later, I will have him on on a regular basis. Don’t know yet, we have to organize things and whatnot. 😀

*I sprung my Always Remember on him. LOL. I didn’t even know I was going to do it until I thought of it while we were recording. LOL.

      Loving your comments! Thank you.
