Playing Hockey – DD51

Dom Does Hockey –
http://www.domdumais.com/DomDumaisDoesHockey

In this episode, Dom talked more about why he stopped playing hockey back in 1989. Next he talked about going to watch the Bangkok Ice Hockey League (BIHL) games and how that led to him being contacted by the Siam Hockey League (SHL) about being their official podcaster. After that he talked about how watching the SHL and getting to know the players re-inspired him about playing hockey and how hockey was meant to be fun. He talked about how Lance Parker and the Flying Farangs helped him get some gear, and when he went to the States and got some hockey gear so he could play hockey when he got back to Thailand. Then he talked about how he felt when he was getting ready to play his first game in almost 30 years, but how that all went away once he just started playing. This episode finishes off with Tracy saying a few words about Dom ice skating and playing hockey again and then a video minutes before his first game in almost 30 years.

Hockey & NHL – DD23

Play

breezersshoulderpadsIn episode 17 and episode 21 Dom talked a little bit about skating and playing hockey.  In this episode, Dom talks about his time playing hockey at different levels from four (4) years old to eighteen (18) years old.  He also talks about some of the different equipment he used while playing hockey, like breezers and shoulder pads and some of the teams he played on.

Dom also talks about watching the Minnesota North Stars, how he felt when they were moved to Dallas and became the Dallas Stars, following the New York Rangers and how excited he was when NHL hockey went back to Minnesota with the Minnesota Wild.

Although Dom no longer plays hockey, he is still a big fan, and loves watching the Minnesota Wild play hockey, which wasn’t easy in Bangkok, until he got the NHL package through NHL.com, and now he watches whenever he wants.

National Wrestling Federation (N.W.F.) – DD16

Play

As you know from the episode about Professional Wrestling, Dom loves professional wrestling. Back in 1986, Dom go to experience professional wrestling first hand.  Back then, in Anoka, Minnesota, there was an organization of kids professional wrestling.  This was an wrestling federation just for kids run by one kid by the name of Shawn Crossen.

Dom joined the NWF with his friend Mike and they were a tag team known as the Mr. Nice Guys.  Mike was Mr. Macho and Dom was Mr. Destroyer.  They had a number of good matches against The Invaders and the Rack ‘n’ Roll Express.

Dom also had some good matches as a singles wrestler against Mr. X, The Invader (Terry Block), Dr. Destruction (Chad), just to name a few.  Dom’s character of Mr. Destroyer was really coming together until he ended up having to move to Wisconsin.

During this time, Dom also wrestled as Rattle Snake Jake and won tag time titles with Dixie Dave in Anoka, but lost them later in Brooklyn Park.

Dom’s character of Mr. Destroyer was really coming together until he ended up having to move to Wisconsin.

During his time as a wrestler with the NWF, Dom made some great friends, which he is still friends with to this day.

Riding Motorcycles – DD15

Play

Dom loves riding motorcycles.  He has been riding bikes since he was a teenager.  In the episode, Dom talks about the types of bikes he has rode and the types he doesn’t like.

ChopperCrusing BikeTo the left is a chopper and to the right is a cruising bike.  The difference between the two (2) bikes is that a chopper, the frame of the bike has been cut or modified in some way, usually the forks are extended.  Dom has never ridden a chopper, but he loves riding cruising bikes.

Mini BikeDirt BikeTo the left is a mini bike and to the right is a dirt bike.  Dom has never ridden a mini bike, but the first bike he ever rode was a dirt bike similar to the bike on the right out at his great uncle’s farm.  He used to ride this bike all through the fields and all around his great uncle’s farm.

Touring BikeBullet BikeOn the left is a touring bike and on the right is a bullet bike.  These two (2) types of bikes Dom isn’t very fond of.  He’s never ridden them, but for him, they just don’t look very comfortable.  Everybody he has talked to, they say that at least with the bullet bike, long road trips aren’t comfortable at all and cause people lower back pain.

Honda WaveTo the left is a Honda Wave 100cc.  Dom and Tracy used to own one of these also, and Dom was teaching Tracy how to ride a bike on it.  They also owned a Honda Phantom 200cc motorcycle, which is what they used for their two (2) road trips around northern Thailand.

Dom spends the remainder of the show talking about their road trips around northern Thailand.

American Football – DD9

Play

In this episode, Dom starts off talking about his experience playing football as a kid, with friends in the schoolyard, neighborhood, and in organized leagues, and the positions that he played.

Next, Dom talks about getting into football as a kid and being a Vikings fan, watching games with his dad, going to a game with his mom, watching games when he was in the Navy, and after the Navy. He also talks about losing touch with football, and touching base with it again when he was living in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  He also talks about after he and Tracy move back to Bangkok, and watching games, and then getting the NFL package through NFL.com.

The Vikings have been to the Superbowl four (4) times, Superbowl IV, VIII, IX, XI, and haven’t won it yet.  Only one team has been to the Superbowl more times with losses, but they have won a few Superbowls, and the Vikings are tied with the Buffalo Bills with most Superbowl appearances without a win.

Dom talks about some of his memories with football, from watching that game with his mom, watching Randy Moss‘s & Randall Cunningham, Brett Favre.  Struggling with Christian Ponder, watching Matt Cassel doing well then flounder.  Watching Teddy Bridgewater come to lead the Vikings.  The struggle with what happened with Adrian Peterson, and coming around to loving watching him play again.
