Professional Wrestling Terminology – DD20

Play

As Dom has talked before in Episode 6 and Episode 16, he is a big fan of professional wrestling.

Since doing those two podcasts, some of people have asked some questions about some of the terminology that he used in those episodes.

The Fabulous FreebirdsSome of the terms Dom was asked about where, what is the difference between a federation and an alliance, on who The Fabulous Freebirds where and what was the Freebird rule, what the difference between a tag team and a stable was in wrestling, and the difference between a face, babyface and a heel, just to name a few.

National Wrestling Federation (N.W.F.) – DD16

Play

As you know from the episode about Professional Wrestling, Dom loves professional wrestling. Back in 1986, Dom go to experience professional wrestling first hand.  Back then, in Anoka, Minnesota, there was an organization of kids professional wrestling.  This was an wrestling federation just for kids run by one kid by the name of Shawn Crossen.

Dom joined the NWF with his friend Mike and they were a tag team known as the Mr. Nice Guys.  Mike was Mr. Macho and Dom was Mr. Destroyer.  They had a number of good matches against The Invaders and the Rack ‘n’ Roll Express.

Dom also had some good matches as a singles wrestler against Mr. X, The Invader (Terry Block), Dr. Destruction (Chad), just to name a few.  Dom’s character of Mr. Destroyer was really coming together until he ended up having to move to Wisconsin.

During this time, Dom also wrestled as Rattle Snake Jake and won tag time titles with Dixie Dave in Anoka, but lost them later in Brooklyn Park.

During his time as a wrestler with the NWF, Dom made some great friends, which he is still friends with to this day.
